Scouting 4 Food Drive in Colorado Springs: Fill Your Bag by 8 AM Saturday, October 10
If you found a brown paper bag on your front porch this week, it came from our local Scouts. Banning Lewis BSA Troop 228 delivered more than 4,000 food drive bags to homes across our east Colorado Springs neighborhood for the annual Scouting 4 Food drive. The Treasure Davis Team is proud to help spread the word, because a drive like this only works when every neighbor knows the bag is there.
Here is everything you need to know to take part.
How the Scouting 4 Food Drive Works
Scouting 4 Food is the annual food drive organized by the Pathways to the Rockies Council, BSA, and Troop 228 runs it in the Banning Lewis area. Participating takes about five minutes:
Fill the bag on your porch with nonperishable food or household essentials.
Attach the flyer that came with the bag.
Set it near your front door by 8:00 AM on Saturday, October 10, 2026.
The Scouts pick it up throughout the morning and afternoon.
If your bag is still sitting on the porch at 3:00 PM, text or call your address to 719-287-1043 and the troop will make sure it gets collected.
Most Needed Items
Fresh Start Center shared the items it needs most right now:
Cereal
Canned fruit and vegetables
Canned tomatoes
Canned meats
Rice and canned beans
Canned soups
Canned stews and chili
Pasta (any variety) and pasta sauce
Grape jelly
Baking goods
Condiments and dinner sides
Coffee, tea and drinks
Toilet paper
Diapers and feminine hygiene products
Household items like toilet paper, diapers and hygiene products are often the hardest for families to stretch a budget around, so adding even one of those makes a real difference.
Where Your Donation Goes
Every bag collected goes to Fresh Start Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit at 7375 Adventure Way in Colorado Springs. Fresh Start Center serves neighbors east of Colorado Springs from Powers Boulevard all the way to Limon through food distribution, nursing support, employment and resource networking, and gardening education.
The impact is real. According to the troop's flyer, last year's drive helped Fresh Start Center provide 337,500 meals to neighbors in need. Fresh Start Center also reports serving 16,268 neighbors from 5,049 households in 2025 on its website.
No Bag? You Can Still Help
If you live outside the drop zone or missed the bag delivery, you can still support the cause:
Give online through Fresh Start Center's donation page.
Volunteer with Fresh Start Center through its volunteer page.
Share this post with neighbors in Colorado Springs so no bag goes unfilled.
Why the Treasure Davis Team Supports Scouting 4 Food
The Treasure Davis Team has called Colorado Springs home for more than 20 years. Helping neighbors is part of how we live, not just how we work. When Troop 228 asked for help reaching more households, the Treasure Davis Team was glad to share their drive across our platforms. These Scouts spent their week walking bags to thousands of doors. The least we can do is make sure every one of those bags comes back full.
Thank you to Banning Lewis BSA Troop 228, the Pathways to the Rockies Council and Fresh Start Center for the work they do for families across east Colorado Springs. And thank you, neighbors, for filling those bags.
